The Simpsons vs Family Guy

With the recent data collected by Reddit user ReverseTuringTest, we can now compare The Simpsons vs Family Guy.
The two shows are very similar apart from The Simpsons leaning more towards a PG rating whilst Family Guy contains more adult humor. But apart from that, most people would put the two shows in the same boat in terms of genre and style.
Because the shows are so similar to a lot of people, I am especially excited to compare the two today.
You can see the individual pages for yourself by heading over to the graphs page.
The Simpsons is on the left and Family Guy is on the right.

As you can see, both shows have suffered from season decay, but one more so than the other. The Simpsons range in review scores is 5.1 with the lowest episode being rated 4.2 and the highest being rated 9.3. This seems like a lot, but as you can see from the Family Guy graph, their is also an outlier. This means that the range for Family Guy isn't much different with a 4.8 range. However, if we were to discount that outlier, you can see that there is many other episodes from Simpsons that fall close to their lowest rated episode.
If we go back and look at the beginning of each show, you can clearly see which show started stronger. The Simpsons enjoyed 7 seasons of 8+ ratings whilst Family Guy had none. That is pretty astounding to say the least. Now this is where the comparison between the season decay of the two shows becomes really interesting. If we look at the other end of the scale, Family Guy have only had two seasons below 7, but The Simpsons have had 15! More than half of seasons aired have been rated under a 7. If we assume the industry average and say that 7 is an average episode, then you are looking at a below average show for the past 15 years! That is truly remarkable.
The lowest rated season for The Simpsons is also the most recent season, but because that has the lowest amount of people rating the show, we should look at the second lowest rated, which so happens to be the season before. If, again, we decide that there hasn't been enough ratings for that season, we can look at the third lowest rated season, which so happens to be the third most recent season. If we compare this to Family Guy, there lowest rated season was Season 12 and they are currently airing Season 16, which has an average of 1.1 higher than Season 12. This suggests that Family Guy is on an upswing compared to The Simpsons incredibly stubborn downswing with no end in sight.
Even if we consider that The Simpsons had only aired 16 seasons in order to have a more fair comparison, we would still be looking at Family Guy being in better shape. The last time The Simpsons didnt have a lower rated season than the previous one was Season 12 that was also about a 7 rating. Just to reiterate what I said before, The Simpsons last 7 rated show, was Season 14, Family Guy's was Season 16, there most recent one. If we were to discount Season 16 because it is still airing, both Season 15 and 14 of Family Guy have had about 7 ratings.
Overall I would say that Family Guy are looking to be in a much better position than The Simpsons.
