This post is to determine which long running sitcom suffered from season decay more and the overall viewer feedback of both shows and how they compare to each other. Of course, The Big Bang Theory is still an on going show, but as it is currently still airing Season 11 and Friends ran for 10 seasons, I believe that this is a great opportunity to determine which show has the better ratings and viewer feedback. All ratings are taken from IMDB. This is the direct graph comparison between the two shows. Friends is on the left and The Big Bang Theory is on the right. As you can see, the season decay from The Big Bang Theory is far more apparent than Friends, in fact, Friends hit it's peak in the final two episodes of the series, with the last episode being the highest rated in the entire show with a score of 9.7.
This also highlights how The Big Bang Theory suffered from season decay as it's peak was reached in the second season with a rating of 9.2. However, in a sea of low to mid 7 ratings, there was an episode in season 9 that reached 9.2, episode 11. If you are looking for the next episode to reach a 9 rating, then you are going to have to search as far back as season 3. To conclude, Friends has received a higher average score than The Big Bang Theory, 8.5 to 8.0, despite The Big Bang Theory being on par, and in parts, better than Friends in the early stages of the show. Many people say that The Big Bang Theory should have ended after season 9, some say earlier, but it continues to air and will do so for at least one more season.
